This herb was first described in ancient Chinese medicinal texts. Shen Nong’s ‘Canon of Medicinal Herbs’, compiled around 400 A.D., cites its use. The name ‘Epimedium’ was given to it since it’s related to a plant found in the ancient southwest Asian kingdom of Media that now forms a part of Iran.
